IRWIN Introduces New Series of Folding Utility Knives
With Proprietary BladeLock Technology

New Knives Offer Unprecedented Locking Features, Durability and Design Innovations

Across all trades, there is a common tool in every tradesman’s tool bag – a utility knife. Utility knives come in various shapes and sizes and are used to cut a wide range of materials on the job site and in the home. Today, IRWIN Tools introduces the International A’Design Platinum Award winning Folding Utility Knife Series with patented BladeLock Technology – the FK100, FK150, and FK250. Recognized for its "best-in-class" design attributes, the FK Series is durable, compact, and easy-to-use.

The IRWIN® FK Series delivers unparalleled user safety, durability, and comfort. IRWIN’s proprietary design addresses the most frequently cited user frustration – when blades accidentally pull out of the handle during use. BladeLock Technology further improves safety by providing the user with the ability to change blades only when the release button is engaged and the blade holder is in the 45° open position. Each of the new folding utility knives has a liner lock for safe, one-handed operation and a 16° cutting angle for ultimate comfort and control. No other folding knife offers this level of blade security and user safety.

"IRWIN’s research shows that the utility knife is the second most important tool to a tradesman, and the biggest frustration and safety hazard on the job is when the blade comes out unexpectedly during cutting. This frustration lead to development of the built-in BladeLock safety feature, which is an important part of all three knife models. But we didn’t stop there," emphasized Katy Vogl, IRWIN Product Manager. "These new knives are what every tradesman will want in his tool box or pocket, or on his belt clip. Whether you need the compact durability of the FK100, the built-in blade storage of the FK150, or the durability of the FK250 with fold out screwdriver, there is a knife for every tradesman."

Comfortable in the hand, pocket or on the belt, the FK100 has a built-in wire stripper, cast finger grooves and trigger-grip handle for greater control.

The new IRWIN FK150 with BladeLock Technology is a no-nonsense, rugged folding utility knife designed with built-in blade storage that holds up to two blades for quick, on-the-job blade changes. The compact and durable design of the FK150 fits comfortably in the hand, pocket or on the belt. The FK150 has cast finger grooves, trigger-grip handle and delivers maximum durability, reliability, and is easy–to–use.

For the tradesman who needs a superior utility knife and quick access to his most commonly used screwdriver bits—without the bulk of a multi-tool— IRWIN integrated a foldout screwdriver for 1” insert bits into the new IRWIN FK250 with BladeLock Technology. For added convenience and customization, the FK250 includes built-in blade storage and an additional insert bit storage compartment. The FK250 delivers maximum durability and versatility and is designed with cast finger grooves and trigger grip handle for optimal control.

IRWIN’s New Impact Performance Series Line is
Custom-Engineered for Impact Drills and Drivers

Phase 1 Launch of IRWIN’s New Line Includes Screwdriving Bits, Nutsetters,
Socket Adapters, and Bit Holders

As professional tradesmen continually seek power tool accessories that stand up on the toughest jobsites and help them do their jobs better, faster, or easier, IRWIN Tools announces the introduction of the Impact Performance Series™ line of screwdriving bits, nutsetters, socket adapters, and bit holders. While most accessories currently marketed for use in impact drills and drivers are compatible with impact power tools, IRWIN’s new line of Impact Performance Series accessories is engineered specifically for use in impact tools. The launch is the first phase of the introduction of a comprehensive line of accessories designed for use in impact drills and drivers.

Impact Performance Series Screwdriving/Fastener Drive Bits

IRWIN’s Impact Performance Series fastener drive bits are available in Phillips®, square recess, Torx®, and tamper-resistant Torx® bits. The bits are forged rather than milled, so they fit fasteners more precisely, which reduces stripping and increases the life of the bit itself – IRWIN's Impact Performance Series bits have three times longer life than standard insert or power bits. They’re manufactured with heavy-duty, cold-forged, high-grade steel that withstands extremely high torque output, and have a black oxide finish that resists corrosion and substantially increases the life of the bit.

Impact Performance Series Lobular Nutsetters

IRWIN Impact Performance Series nutsetters are built for maximum durability, performance, and long life with impact tools. They are designed to drive the fastener from the side, rather than forcing the corners to turn, maintaining the shape of the fastener and dramatically reducing breakage and damage from stripping. The lobular design provides more clearance on the corners of the fastener where paint build-up often occurs. They are available with or without extremely powerful rare earth magnets that hold fasteners securely in place. They have a black oxide finish that resists corrosion and increases the life of the nutsetter.

Impact Performance Series Bit Holders

IRWIN Impact Performance Series insert bit holders have a c-ring design with an external clip that fits into the retaining ring notch of the insert bit, as well as a powerful rare earth magnet that’s four times stronger than standard magnets – both of which hold bits securely in place. They have a black oxide finish that resists corrosion and increases the life of the bit holder.

Impact Performance Series Socket Adapters

IRWIN’s new Impact Performance Series socket adapters also are engineered for maximum durability and long life with impact tools. They are available with a ball-lock retention design for applications when quick-change is ideal. The body of the socket is forged for additional strength, and they have a black oxide finish that resists corrosion and increases the life of the tool.

Research indicates that professional tradesmen are rapidly shifting to impact technology, with the use of impact drivers increasing dramatically over the past five years. In fact, tradesmen are using impact drivers almost daily, and 30 percent of their time is spent using an impact tool versus rotary or other types of drills or drivers. Most accessories currently marketed for impact use are only compatible with impact drivers, but IRWIN’s new line of Impact Performance Series accessories are built and engineered for optimal performance with impact tools. This first phase of this launch is really only the beginning. Continued enhancements to the performance of impact drivers themselves, such as new motor or battery technologies, will lead to expansion of the Impact Performance Series line to include all types of accessories for impact drivers.

IRWIN’s entire line of Impact Performance Series screwdriving bits, nutsetters, socket adapters, and bit holders has a 1/4" quick-change shank that’s designed to work with all types of impact drivers and rotary drills.

IRWIN’s Impact Performance Series accessories can be found at home centers, hardware stores, and construction and industrial tool suppliers throughout the U.S. and Canada. They can be purchased as singles, in bulk, or as sets. The suggested retail price for screwdriving bits ranges from $0.95 to $6.49, nutsetters from $3.49 to $9.99, socket adapters from $3.49 to $6.99, and bit holders from $4.49 to $6.99. Multiple set configurations are available, with prices ranging from $18.49 to $54.99.

Irwin’s Multi-Material Drill Bits Save Tradesmen
Time and Energy on the Jobsite

Toting around different types of bits for different drilling tasks can be cumbersome, so every professional tradesman needs a single bit that’s capable of drilling through multiple types of materials.

Irwin multimaterial 7_32 drill bit

IRWIN® Tools full line of multi-material drill bits will drill through just about any type of material out there, including brick, block, tile, metal, wood, laminate, plastic, and marble. They will even drill through multiple materials at the same time. They have a unique diamond-ground, four-facet carbide tip with super-sharp cutting edges that guarantee centered starts with no walking, fast drilling, and excellent hole quality. The versatile bits have a double-milled flute that removes dust and debris quickly and efficiently, which not only increases drilling speed (with no clogging), but results in longer bit life as well. These versatile bits are designed specifically for rotary drilling, but are tough enough to be used with hammer drills.

Professional tradesmen repeatedly express frustration with having to carry around multiple types of drill bits, and switch out bits depending on a particular material they need to drill into at any given time. It’s time consuming and discouraging for them.

These bits are particularly useful when drilling through multiple materials at the same time. For instance, when drilling through a tile floor, there’s more than just the tile. There’s also a backer board and a sub-floor or concrete slab. With a kitchen backsplash, there’s tile, backer board, drywall, and possibly a wood stud. These bits will drill right through every layer of building materials, eliminating the need to change bits for each material.

IRWIN Multi-Material drill bits are compatible with all standard 1/2" and 3/8” chuck drills. They are available in 3- to 5-inch jobber lengths and 16-inch extended length, with diameters ranging from 1/8 to 1/2 inches. They can be found at home centers, hardware stores, and construction and industrial tool distributors throughout the U.S. and Canada. The suggested retail price ranges from $5 to $15 on single bits, depending on length and diameter, and $20 for the 5-piece kit.
