Tips for Assembling Living Room Sets

Buying furniture online can save you a lot of money, but it does come with a bit of added effort. In addition to the fact that the delivery man probably won’t be bringing it in and setting it up for you, there may be some minor assembly required. You shouldn’t let this stop you from getting great discounts on furniture online, but it is important to be prepared and know what to expect.

Here are some of our best tips for assembling living room sets.

Read the instructions fully before unpacking.

When your furniture first arrives, open at the top (it should be indicated on the box) and remove the instructions. Read all of the instructions completely before unpacking the box. This document will also contain a list of pieces and hardware included in the box, as well as a list of household tools needed for assembly.

Lay out the pieces, hardware, and tools.

Using the instructions as a guide, lay out the pieces, hardware, and tools that you will need for each step in the order in which you will need them. This ensures that you have everything you need before you start. Missing parts can be procured from the manufacturer or online store where you bought the living room furniture. If you would rather not wait for their solution, you may be able to replace the part at your local hardware store.

This also gives you a chance to make sure you have the right tools for the job. The instructions will tell you if you need a phillips, flathead screwdriver, or hammer, but they don’t tell you what size you need. Laying everything out together gives you a chance to make sure your tools are the right size and type for the job.

Don’t deviate from the instructions.

A lot of people will read the instructions upon opening but fail to look at anything other than the diagrams while actually assembling the furniture. Undoubtedly when this happens you’ll have “spare parts” leftover. Those spare parts mean that you didn’t assemble the furniture correctly, which can make it dangerous. Such furniture can break easily, causing injury and leaving you without living room seating.

Getting help with assembly

Purchasing items online has become so commonplace that there are now services dedicated to assembling and installing your furniture and other home items. You will, of course, pay for this service, but the cost could be absorbed by the significant savings of living room deals.
