Roof Structure

Structural Deterioration And Damage

Problem: Roof structure sags around truss connections.

Cause: Inadequate supports and poor fastening of connections.

The use of the wrong type or size of connectors, improper fastening of connectors to truss members and undersized support beams or girder trusses can all result in sagging of the roof structure under snow loads.

Solutions: Follow truss roof design for supports and connections.

  • Roof designs and structures are becoming more complicated. Truss manufacturers provide detailed installation drawings which specify connection types and fastening requirements for all trusses. The strength of truss roof systems depends on the connections being made properly.
  • Use truss hangers that are large enough and fully fasten them to support trusses or beams as shown in Figures 19a, 19b, 19c and 19d.
